Map and highlights of Boulder Beach
UPDATE: Boulder
Harbor Launch Ramp is CLOSED
In 2010 the water level
receded to mandate the closure of this new ramp. As water levels
rise it will reopen in the future.
The west shore of the Boulder Beach
recreational area is set aside for day use only, no
overnight camping is allowed on the beach, but there are nearby campgrounds.
If you want to camp beach-side with no hookups the north shore of Boulder Basin
is the place to go, such as Government Wash launch or
Boxcar Canyon.
The map below shows some of the hidden secrets of
the Boulder Beach area, such as the restricted area
near Lake Mead Marina for scuba diving only (no boating).
Much of this diving area is temporarily limited because of the low water
conditions so check first with the NPS on diving here. There's also a large paved area
for remote control model planes near Hemenway launch ramp. And
for an interesting hike, try checking out the train tunnels near the Alan Bible
visitor center (take flashlights). See the free movie at the visitor
center first, showing how the dam was built with trains hauling the large pipes
that were built in Boulder City.
Most beach
areas on Lake Mead allow for boats to be brought to shore, but some of the area around
Boulder Campground is for swimming only, no boats allowed on shore.
You will see signs indicate each of these areas.
